| The Maltese Islands are a small archipelago of some six islands and islets in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea, just south of Sicily (Italy). Their population is about 345,000. |
| The largest island of the group is Malta, from which the archipelago takes its name. With its capital, Valletta, it has a population of just 320,000. |
| The other inhabited island is Gozo, population 25,000. It can be reached from Malta by ferry-boat from Cirkewwa and Pieta'. Comino, Cominotto, Filfla and St Paul's Island are the other major features of the archipelago. Of these, only Comino, straddled between Malta and Gozo, sustains a very tiny population. |
| The Internet has been publicly accessible here in Malta for the last two years, and the number of people using the net has grown at an exponential rate, to the delight of the local service providers. |
